Third week: Accounting confusion

Date: 25th and 26th Sept, 2008

Gaahhhhh….
Now I know why accounting is so much cursed by all. I did not understand the difference between credit and debit. So going by the rule learned in previous week I skipped the chapter with the hope that I may not have to skip the subject.
The problem with the twice a week executive MBA is that around 35 hours are allotted for each of the subjects that translate to 20 %of subject in a day. In the end I now that I need to open my accounting book now. God help me please.

Second week: Introduction to Management

Date: 18th and 19th Sept, 2008

My major concern is the usefulness of this part-time course. I’ll see how this turns out later.

Anyway the important lesson learned today: - “If you can’t understand a word, ignore the line. If you can’t understand line, ignore the sentence.”

My extension to it is: - “If you can’t understand sentence, ignore the chapter.”

First Day : Program Induction

Date : 11th Sept, 2008

Well, first day turned out to be better than I anticipated before as SIBM director along with company HR heads came to induction program. And I must admit that these guys from SIBM are very good speakers. We were introduced to SIBM program coordinators and company's HR heads, whom I did not meet and knew before. They introduced us about the program and we were given books for the first quarter. Wowow, the sheer bulk of books made me realise that study was also to be done for passing with good marks. Still I was happy for 4 working days a week for 1 year ahead.

The induction was over in half day and a lecture started which I was really not expecting. Anyway mood of the induction was reflecting in the environment and hence the class went fine for first day.

MBA Files : An Introduction

Before we start this journey I must first introduce me to you all so that you can understand where I belong and why and where I plan to go.

About me:-
I am Jeetendra Prasad working in Thermax, Pune since last one year as senior automation engineer*1. I have got a total of 5 years of professional experience and am taking care of all internal software development in my devision.

About E-MBA program:-

This is executive MBA program from SIBM (Symbiosis Institute of Business Management), Pune of 18 months duration sponsored by my company. First year consist of class room coaching consisting of three 4-monthly semesters followed by another 6 months of project which we have to take do in our company. This is one of the steps a company takes to make sure that it gets back the fruit from the seed it sowed.

The journey so far:-

Things go nice and fine as long as you look that way. After four years of professional experience I suddenly realized something amiss in my life. This hollow feeling had nothing to do with professional life. My professional life was going fine. In fact you continue to grow in an organization like flowing water, facing some hurdles occasionally but you keep flowing somehow, somewhere. But one day I decided its time to move on and some take plunge. So I took the plunge. But life doesn’t give all you want and now full time MBA is added to my list of unfulfilled dreams. Then my dear life threw an opportunity to me which I clinged and joined executive MBA program sponsored by my company. Lets see where I go now.

*1 Senior Automation Engineer is same as Senior Software Engineer.
